Faisalabad (NY Tomorrow) Worldwide popular apps and websites such as Reddit, Fortnite, Snapchat and Wordle were suddenly shut down. The reason for this is not your internet but a major technical error in Amazon Web Services (AWS).
According to the website Android Police, this bug has affected dozens of apps including Snapchat, Duolingo, Alexa. Even banking websites, Zoom and Amazon’s Ring Camera service have also been shut down.
Amazon says there are “signs of system recovery” but more sites are beginning to be affected. The outage began around 4 a.m. (US ET), when Snapchat and Duolingo were the first to be affected. Soon the problem spread and banking apps, messaging services like Signal and games like Fortnite also fell victim.
Amazon engineers began work immediately, but the problem was not fully resolved after several hours.
While some websites are back up and running, more services like Reddit and Starbucks are also down.
Amazon Web Services is the world’s largest cloud computing company, operating data centers for millions of apps, websites, and online games.
It is such a large company that a large portion of Amazon’s revenue comes from it.
Therefore, when there is a failure in AWS, the Internet services of the entire world are affected.
Dozens of apps and websites are still inaccessible while engineers work on repairs. However, it is not yet clear when the global standoff will end completely.
If one of your favorite apps or websites isn’t working right now, it’s most likely due to an error with Amazon Web Services. You can check the status by visiting the DownDetector website for confirmation.
