Faisalabad (NY Tomorrow) Once again multiple online platforms around the world were simultaneously affected when Cloudflare system suddenly crashed. Due to this glitch, several major websites including popular games like social media platform X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI, League of Legends were down for hours.
Cloudflare said on its official status website that its team is “aware of the issue and an investigation is ongoing.” According to the company, services are currently under restoration, but some users may still experience more errors than usual.
Interestingly, Downdetector, a website that displays outage reports, also initially went offline, as it also uses Cloudflare’s services. It was restored after a while, but other websites kept showing errors like “Internal Server Error” and 500.
The bug came to light around 6 a.m. (Eastern Time), when Cloudflare’s support portal provider reported system problems. X, Canva, and multiple game servers were then affected simultaneously. Thousands of League of Legends and Valorant players were seen complaining about not being able to connect to the server.
According to Cloudflare, their teams are conducting a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, the company’s own status website was also partially damaged and its CSS styling was affected.
Several users found messages like “Please unblock challenges.cloudflare.com to proceed” while browsing the web, while OpenAI also encountered the same problem, but ChatGPT showed relatively quick recovery.
The company says the issue is not due to any user error, but rather a technical glitch in Cloudflare’s security systems. Even with security systems failing, websites themselves are running on the backend, but access may be affected.
Further details will be released after Cloudflare’s investigation is complete.
